On this page you will find various additional information. Something between an FAQ answer page and the miscellaneous.
Q: “Doing this kind of training is it possible to still dress modestly (that is a skirt rather than pants)?”
A: Yes, it is absolutely possible to dress modestly. The traditional outer garment worn for this training, which is called a “hakama”, is a full length pleated split skirt-like pair of pants. There is also a non-split full skirt version of the same garment which is often worn by practitioners of traditional Japanese Archery. The hakama is worn by both men and women for various reasons among which is modesty and another is that it helps a person develop an understanding of how to move.
Q: What if a student is unable to attend both weekly classes and can instead only attend one class a week?
A: Although it is encouraged that each student attend both classes, it is more important that a consistent time for training be created. If only one of the training days in a week will work with the student’s schedule then that is the day.
If some other arrangement or situation should be considered do feel free to ask.
Q: If a student can only make one class a week is there a change in cost?
A: Yes. Under such circumstances the cost per month is only $75.
Q: What is the average age of a student of Heart Mind Sword? Is this really all ages or is there an age which is too young or too old?
A: Currently, the average student age is in the early 20s. There really is no upper age “limit”. As this is a life skill style art it is, and is practiced in, a low impact body/mind development and healing way. If a person is interested, whatever their age, and has a concern about their ability to participate it is encouraged that they contact the instructor and or visit a class for a better idea of physical requirements. There is a “too young” age, not in the sense that what is being taught cannot be learned by the very young but rather the class structure and style is not conducive to persons under the age of ~6. Note: anyone 10 years of age and under must be accompanied by a participating adult or guardian and there is no additional monthly fee under such circumstances.
